230.  PUBLIC PERFORMANCES BY STUDENTS
1.
Purpose
The Board recognizes the value of students sharing their talents and skills with the
community through student participation and performances in public events.
2.
Authority
SC 510
The Board endorses public performances by students when they constitute a learning
experience that contributes to the educational program; they do not interfere with
other scheduled activities; and the circumstances of the event do not pose a threat to
the health, safety or well-being of the students who are involved.
3.
Delegation of
Responsibility
All requests for public performances by student groups require the approval of the
respective building principal(s) or central office administrator and completion of a
building permit where applicable.
4.
Guidelines
Parental permission shall be sought and received before students may participate in
any public performance.

When public performances are scheduled as a regular part of a planned course of
instruction taken for credit, students shall be informed in advance of their obligation
to participate; and they will be excused from participation only in accordance with
the rules and procedures governing school attendance.
No district student, group of students, or employees may receive compensation for a
public performance of students organized as school representatives.
Public performances shall comply with all copyright and other intellectual property
laws.  The District prohibits public performances of copyrighted works without the
necessary license or permission.
