TITLE:
PHILOSOPHY OF EDUCATION/
MISSION STATEMENT
ADOPTED:
May 17, 2007
REVISED:
101.  PHILOSOPHY OF EDUCATION/MISSION STATEMENT
1.
Purpose
District Philosophy
The district believes in democracy as the American way of life, a system that gives
equal social, educational, and economic opportunities to each individual. Maximum
freedom for all is best attained under laws democratically enacted and fairly
administered. This demands a society made up of individuals who have the ability to
accept public responsibilities intelligently, a society made up of individuals who are
literate, well informed, and cognizant of their obligations to fellow citizens.
Each individual is capable of growing and developing physically, mentally, and
socially. The role of the district is to foster this growth. The speed with which the
individual learns and gains knowledge varies greatly; this is the law of individual
differences. The district recognizes this and will adjust the curriculum and methods
of teaching to the needs of the individual insofar as it is possible. It is the duty of the
district to teach in such a way that the student will be a credit, not only to him/
herself but also to the society in which s/he lives. It is the duty of the district to help
develop the individual to the point where s/he can make the greatest contribution to
the community, state, and nation. The district will teach each child to be competent
physically, mentally, morally, and socially.
It can be stated that a school district consists of many hearts, such as the community,
student body, finances, plant facilities, staff, and curriculum. Needless to say, it
would be detrimental to attempt to separate one from the other, but without question,
an educational program of great depth and breadth is a very important responsibility
of the local educational agency.
Every district is obligated to the student body to prepare and look to the future to
keep abreast of new developments in technology, course content, and methodology.
No curriculum can remain static; it must be flexible and change when dictated by the
needs of society.
